Online Consultation

Thank you for visiting this online consultation for our exciting proposals that would see our family business (Castleton Fruit Ltd) modernise our existing operations with the development of new polytunnels, replacing our existing polytunnel structures.

We had initially planned to welcome members of the public and interested parties to a Public Exhibition at Castleton Farm Shop to present the proposals, and importantly get your feedback. However,  due to the current situation regarding Covid-19 you will appreciate that we have taken the decision to hold an online consultation instead. We trust you will appreciate we have the health and safety of everyone that would have attended in mind. Thank you for visiting the online consultation and we look forward to hearing from you.

The Proposals

We submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN) to Aberdeenshire Council in March 2020 for the erection of new polytunnels over a 6.5ha area of arable land currently occupied by polytunnels to support the growth of our business. Please note that a PoAN commences the formal consultation on the proposal and is not a planning application.

The exhibition boards that would have been on display at the public consultation event can now be viewed here. (PDF)

The proposed polytunnels comprise modular units arranged in terraced rows with a proposed internal gross floorspace of approximately 60,000sqm.

The existing polytunnels have been present on-site for approximately 10 years, however, they are of inferior structural quality to the proposed model, which offers superior thermal qualities, and which have a more flexible, expandable/reducible design.

Indicative proposed finishes comprise unfinished steel or aluminium framing with white/off-white, translucent, non-reflective cladding.

If consented, the project will go a long way to the continuing success of our business and will allow us to grow in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

Please join us for an online event on Monday 1st June between 4-7pm. This online event will provide an opportunity for you to view the proposals and ask us and our development consultants about them through our interactive Live Chat service.
